Time has passed since Jesus' ascension, the number of believers was growing as Peter and Paul continued their ministry. Mark's intent was to help readers understand the coming of Jesus as the Son of God and His call to discipleship.
In this setting, Mark gleaned much from the apostle Peter, inspiring a very practical approach to discipleship. We see his active and task oriented personality come out in his writing style. His writings were intended for the church in Rome but many others, including us in the 21st century, have been and continue to be touched by his work.
