Reverend Lawrence (Larry) R. Katz

(November 26, 1936 - November 30, 2024)

Founding Senior Pastor & Pastor Emeritus of
Grace Fellowship (Currently Genesis Church)

  • Larry lived an uncompromising “yes to Jesus” life. He was known for his contagious love, genuine care for people, and deep faith in Jesus Christ. Everyone felt welcomed, valued, and uplifted by his warmth, laughter, and encouragement. Though he never sought recognition, he was a devoted husband, loving father and Poppy, faithful pastor, gifted Bible teacher, wise counselor, and loyal friend.

    Originally pursuing a career in professional baseball, Larry’s life changed when his mother encouraged him to “give God a chance.” That decision led him to Philadelphia Bible College, where he met his wife and ministry partner, Jackie. Together they attended Dallas Theological Seminary and entered ministry. Over more than 60 years, Larry faithfully served the church, including 25 years as Senior Pastor of Grace Fellowship (Genesis Church) in York, Pennsylvania. His vision was simple: Love God; Love People.

    Larry also loved golf, especially in retirement when he played often with family and friends. After suffering a stroke in 2019, he joked that he never shanked the ball again—and in his final years, he played some of the best golf of his life.

    As a father, Dad loved intentionally and unconditionally. Through regular “date nights” with each of us, he helped us navigate life’s joys and struggles while always pointing us to Jesus, God’s Word, and the hope of heaven. He truly lived what he preached.

    He would be both humbled and honored for you to participate in this year’s Golf Tournament.
