ABOUT

Genesis STEAM Homeschool Co-op (STEAM) is a homeschooling co-op for preschool through 12th grade. The goal of STEAM is to provide our children with educational opportunities that promote academic excellence as well as spiritual development. STEAM teaches that God is the ultimate authority, scripture is sufficient, and that every person was created with a purpose.

Genesis STEAM meets Mondays for thirty weeks beginning in mid-August and ending in mid-April. STEAM takes the month of December off to give our families time to focus on the birth of the Savior and spend time with their families. We have teacher game nights at least once a semester. The first semester ends with a family potluck dinner, and the second semester ends with a Family Night where the children show off the work they have done throughout the year and put on performances.

Each co-op day begins at 9 am and ends at 12:10 pm with optional electives offered after lunch. During this time STEAM provides three academic classes: English, History, and Science.

STEAM is not a “drop-off” program. It is only by the active involvement of our parents, and the extreme generosity of the church, that STEAM is able to keep our costs low. Parents are required to teach and assist in a class. Support and help are available to all parents who need it.

Here is what students can expect for the 24/25 School Year.

In history, students will explore the history of the world starting with creation. They will learn how God has worked throughout history. Students will learn about the cultures and events of the world through reading, videos, games, and hands-on activities. Ever wanted to take a crack at building your own Roman aqueduct, drink the Aztec chocolate drink, or try your hand at making an illuminated text? STEAM’s history students will get to do many of these activities, culminating in a history museum of their making at the end of the year.

Scientists get ready! We will cover a wide array of science studies this year. Some students will participate in dissections to learn about animal anatomy, find out how plants grow, and how God created the world to work. Students will perform multiple experiments to understand how the world around us works and how God is the creator of science.

During the year students will be challenged to improve their writing skills, grammar, and reading comprehension through classics and contemporary books as they become well-rounded students. Preschoolers and lower elementary students will develop their reading skills through phonics and fun learning activities.

DISCIPLINE

In an effort to maintain a safe and educationally effective environment, GSC expects children to be respectful and obedient as outlined in the Student Commitment Form. Disciplinary issues will be handled according to the Matthew 18 paradigm:

  • The teacher will address the disciplinary issue with the student. In the event that the issue is not resolved;

  • The teacher will speak to the student and their parent in the presence of a leadership team member. In the event that the issue is not settled;

  • The Leadership team will address the issue with the teacher, parent and student, which could lead to dismissal from the co-op.
